Album Info:The only time the PCRRHS has a formal meeting is at their annual convention. The location rotates among cities the PC served & this year the event was anchored at the Holiday Inn Independence outside Cleveland, Ohio. A tour of Charter Steel followed by the NS Macedonia Car Shop was on tap for Friday, & Saturday we paid a visit to the Midwest Railway Preservation Society site at the ex-B&O roudhouse. The afternoon extra fare excursion was behind the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society ex- Nickel Plate 2-8-4 #765 the on Cuyahoga Valley Scenic. The keynote speaker at the banquet was Greg Comstock, Vice President of the Norfolk Southern Northern Region

Description:  Lima 1944...see Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society website for a complete history. The water car is modified from an L&N M1 2-8-4 tender (Lima 1949), rebuild date unknown. The car was first used behind C&O 614 1980-1985, then purchased for use behind N&W 1218 1987-1991. It has also seen service behind SOU 4501, N&W 611, SLSF 1522 (while it operated on NS in 1994), and NKP 765.

Description:  Budd 1949...Ex-MARC 142, exx-SEMTA 112 Pleasant Ridge, exxx-PC/PRR coach 1537, nee-PRR 21 roomette sleeper 8258 Franklin Inn. Owned by National Railway Historical Society.In 1963, the Pennsylvania Railroad needed coaches to replace an aging fleet of P-70 coaches for the Northeast Corridor. Additional cars would also be needed for the 1964 New York World’s Fair. Work on converting fifty of the Inn-series cars into coach lounges began on April 3, 1963 and was completed by December of that year by the Budd Company. With the rebuild, the cars were designated as Class P85L coaches. Forty-eight of the cars had 64 coach seats and a small, twelve-seat lounge at the end opposite the vestibule, and were renumbered 1500-1547. Two of the cars had 64 coach seats with a six-seat snack bar lounge; these were numbered 1548 and 1549. Southeast Michigan Transportation Authority, SEMTA purchased 12 of the 1500 series cars, in 1976, rehabbed them at Mechtron Industries in Wilmington, DE after the cars came to Detroit (and were stored in Windsor, Ontario before the purchase), and were used in SEMTA commuter service on the Grand Trunk Western until Oct., 1983. In 1984 SEMTA leased these cars to Metro North (MN). At some time after that the Michigan Dept. of Transportation took over ownership of the cars, and the lease, until MN no longer needed the cars.last saw service as a commuter car, rebuilt for MARC train service, serving as part of MARC's Heritage Fleet. MARC applied the former PRR name to the car in 1994, at the time when they went through major rebuilding of the fleet. The MARC Heritage fleet cars were retired from service in 2001 and were stored at MARC’s facility in Brunswick, MD. In November 2008, MARC passed title to the National Railway Historical Society, Washington, D.C. Chapter, Inc (DCNRHS). The car was released to the NRHS Chapter in early August 2009.

Description:  St. Louis Car 1953. Ex-Kentucky Railway Museum #?, exx-US Army kitchen car 89665. Originally built for the Korean War, the car arrived too late for the actual war and was stored with over 50 Army Kitchen and Hospital cars at Toole, UT for 20 years before being aquired through the Federal Surplus Property Act by the State of Kentucky.

Description:  Budd 1949...Ex Akron Metro/MARC/NJT 5435, exxx-PC/PRR coach 1536, exxxx-PRR 8243 21 roomette Ashtabula Inn. In 1991 it was rebuilt by MARC to current 80-seat configuration. In 2000, it was one of 9 picked up by Akron Metro and leased to Cuyahoga Valley Scenic. Ownership of the fleet was transferred from Akron Metro to CVSR as an in-kind contribution on October 29, 2013. Renamed Clarence Reinberger 2012.

Description:  Budd 1950...Ex-AMTK HEP Auto Train café car #8700, exx-3311, nee-Southern Pacific #2989 French Quarter 40 seat club lounge-valet/stewardess room with shower. In June 1948, SP placed an order with Budd for 76 cars to re-equip the Sunset Limited, including 6 of these cars. Amtrak reduced seating to 36, used valet room & shower as crew room, and stewardess room as storage. I don't know the present interior layout. To CVSR 2002.

PRR lounge Paul Revere
Title:  PRR lounge Paul Revere
Description:  Built by Budd in 1951 for the Pennsylvania Railroad, numbered 7141, and named "Paul Revere". This car was used on the Pennsylvania's "Congressional" and "Senator" trains on the Northeast Corridor between Boston, New York and Washington, DC. Originally built as a Parlor Car with 29 seats and a 5 seat drawing room. To Penn Central ownership in 1968, the car was eventually conveyed to Amtrak and renumbered 3641, and operating still as a Parlor Car. Converted to a galley lounge in 1976 and renumbered 3327. From November 1976 to May 1977, the car was numbered 8367. Converted to Head-End Power from Steam Heat in August 1981 and renumbered 3125. Converted to a Cafe-Lounge car in 1989 and sold in 1995 into private ownership where it was used on the California Western Railroad where it became stranded in Willits, CA due to washouts on that line in 1998. The car was saved from the scrappers torch when purchased in 2006 by Glenn Bowman and then trucked from Willits to the Union Pacific Railroad in Sacramento for shipment to Ohio. The car has since been rebuilt into a private cafe-lounge with the original Pennsylvania Railroad paint scheme. CVSR has been leasing this car since 2017.

Built as a "woman & children" car with the present layout except for a door in the corridor on the lower level, later removed. Currently 46 reclining seats on main level with a galley & restrooms below the 24 seat dome. To CVSR 2011 & named Emerson for the electric company that sponsored restoration. Original name restored in 2017.

The car presently seats 46 on the main level with a galley & restrooms below the dome and 24 reclining seats above. Purchsed by CVSR in 2018. First trip.

Description:  Budd 1948. 24 seat dome-1 drawing room-3 double bedroom sleeper-12 seat buffet-12 seat lounge observation. Ex-Cedar Rail Enterprises/Rail Journeys West 800333, exx-Amtrak 9252, exxx-Burlington Northern/Burlington (CB&Q) 377. Currently, the car can accommodate 40 passengers for day operations, and 17 for night. Amenities include: Bar & 1 master bedroom (where the under-dome lounge used to be), 1 triple bedroom, 2 double bedrooms, 3 showers, retention toilet, diesel generator, table seating in dome for dining by day and convertible for sleeping, galley for full meal service and the round-end observation lounge. Purchased by CVSR 2018. First trip!

Title:  CVSR 365
Description:  Rebuilt 2015 by Ohio Locomotive Works to "Lean & Green" specs using 1 million in Federal funds. Alco prime mover replaced with 1550 HP Rolls Royce/MTU V16 for road work. A 165HP John Deere is also on board for light moves & switching. This cuts emissions by 95% & fuel consumption by 75%. Completely rewired w TMV controls in a statdard throttle stand, fully rebuilt trucks & traction motors, TECU wheelslip control & engine monitoring module installed in new electrical cabinet.
