Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad 2-8-2 Class O-3 5305 presumed at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on an unknown day in June 1915, photograph by Baldwin Locomotive Works, Chuck Zeiler collection. Number 5305 was built by Baldwin during June 1915 (c/n 42131), sold for scrap in July 1952, one of 60 Class O-3's numbered 5300-5359. When built, the first 15 were equipped with alligator-type crossheads, the rest were fitted with the Laird type. In later years the O-3's were modified with shorter cabs, the single stage air compressors were replaced with cross-compound types, and feedwater systems (Coffin, Elesco, or Worthington) ere fitted to many. Some of the O-3's were equipped with longer tenders. |
