If an extra capacity train was needed, Train #463 ran behind #461, both trains were turned at Silverton, and #461 returned as #462, and #464 returned as #464.

Description:  Denver & Rio Grande Western Railroad K-28 476 on Train #462 at Hermosa, Colorado on August 24, 1965, Kodachrome by Chuck Zeiler. Also seen (barely) are two gentlemen in the photo, Chris Burritt and Jerry Appleman, two guys with whom I took a journey in August 1965 to photograph the D&RGW narrow gauge. Chris in on the left, below the water tower, Jerry is to the right. Chris passed away recently (Jan., 2008) and I tend to keep an eye out for images I shot of him. I don't know about Jerry, if he is dead or alive. I'm trying to find out.
