Right here. Endicott Johnson Shoe Co was the reason those two towns existed. By the 1990s, they were but a memory in the area, with only one plant still open, making Frye boots in Endicott. CP and NYSW ran their power through on the stack trains, which ran almost daily. With the relatively high number of these trains and the number of diesels needed to keep them moving, it was more common to see mixed consists than matched. It was therefore something of a surprise to see 255-the SLN 5-with a matched set not only of NYSW power, but three of the four remaining B 40s. Here they are about to roll over the road crossing at Canisteo. Any other day I'd have chased this train; I caught it while following 270 east, which had an M636 in the consist. I saw relatively few 6 motor Alcos on the Tier, so was not going to give that up. |

In this case, its BH 1 with a three builder consist, heading north up the connection from the D&H that was built as part of the Bevier St improvement, where the D&H bridges were raised to allow standard 136" trailers, and the ex DLW bridge used by the NYSW was removed in favor of the new connection. |
