That right of way is wide enough to be double-tracked

Yeah, the ROW definitely was double track up until the late 70's/early 80's. BTW, that's a LOT of black in that train.

The entire IC mainline between Chicago and New Orleans was double track until 1991 ( except where 2 separate routes existed: cairo-fulton which was single tracked in the 60's, and memphis-jackson) There is still a 6 mile stretch of double track from Gilman south to Delrey
