By the time this photo was taken of Amtrak 611 (and 631) most of Amtrak's 150 SDP40F units had been traded in on F40PHR's. The 611 and 631 had been used in work train service in Michigan, and were in storage at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. Less than a year after this photo was taken the 611 was traded in of F40's 391-400, which were built in July and August 1985. The 631 lasted a little longer, and was one of the last nine SDP40F's to be retired. These were used as trade-in credit on F40's 401-409, which were built between December 1987 and February 1988. |
