Amtrak "Superliner" coach 34008 has had its body raised by one of the two sets of permanent car jacks at the new Preventive Maintenance Facility at the carriers Los Angeles engine and car shops. With the body removed, the trucks can be inspected, cleaned and, if necessary, replaced. The four hydraulic jacks lift the body in a matter of seconds. One of the cars two kingpins, which pass through the trucks bolsters, can be seen in this view, as well as the chocks holding the trucks in place for reassembly. The car bodys four jacking pads are just outboard of the corner steps. |
