Depots
The old Southwestern Railroad freight depot sits in the background and the modern Southern depot is seen in the foreground. The Southern depot is built on the site of the former passenger depot. The old Southwestern depot was getting in bad shape and despite some efforts to preserve it, it was torn down a few years after this shot was taken. I worked with Southern during the 1980's and had a chance to look inside the old freight house. I found several old register books from the 1960's during the days when the Seminole and City of Miami passenger trains still ran through here. I scanned several pages and they can be seen here: http://bsmith3608.rrpicturearchives.net/locThumbs.aspx?id=25797

David Barrentine General It's a shame that people don't realize what they are losing when they tear down these old depots. 1/22/2012 12:32:06 PM
