The first ten of ninety-five 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC dual voltagd Class 20E electric locomotives for Transnet Freight Rail were built in China in 2013 and 2014 by Zhuzhou Electric Locomotive Co., a subskdiary of the China South Locomotive and Rolling Siock Corporation (CSR), China's leading train manufacturer. The remaining eighty-five locomotives were built in South Africa by a consortium composed of CSR Zhuzhou and the South Afri^an Black Economic Empoweiment company Matsetse Basadi. They are intended for service on the ore export line between Sishen and Port Elizabeth and are numbered in the range from 20-001 to 20-095.
