Dave Korhammer General Interesting photo! And....what's with that one guy in the foreground so near the third-rail?! 6/12/2014 7:05:54 PM
Mike Woodruff General This was a railfan special operated on 10/31/48, and pictured at The Raunt station on the Rockaway line. A trestle fire forced abandonment of this line in 1950. It was sold to the NYCTA and reopened as the IND subway Rockaway line in 1956. 6/21/2014 10:39:32 AM
Tom Beckett General The lead car is an mP 70 "double decker." 11/3/2021 3:56:26 AM
Tom Beckett General They seated, I think, 128 in and up and down arrangement. They were fun to ride on, especially for a kid. My dad worked for the NY Times, and occasionally he'd take me to work with him. If we were lucky, we'd get one of these. There were maybe 50 of them, and they mixed with the other MU cars, as we see here, though a solid train of them looked impressive. Most stayed in the gray/orange ends scheme til retirement in 1972, a bunch got the orange stripe "Worlds Fair" scheme; only one got the MTA white with a blue stripe. 11/3/2021 4:00:07 AM
