The Marion Plywood Corp. and Great Lakes Veneer, Inc. mill, 222 S. Parkview Ave. (originally Railroad Ave.), Marion, WI on 9 Jul. '14. Their original plant was located about 1,000 ft. to the southwest at the intersection of Vine St., Elm St., and North Ave. (now Maes St., SE 2nd St., and Rodgers St.) and received rail service via C&NW from day one. The C&NW rails ran on the other side of the third telephone pole from the left. A large addition was built over and past the original ROW sometime after the rails were abandoned in 1982. The facility still receives rail service, albeit indirectly, from CN via a combination of former C&NW and GB&W rails at New London, WI. The C&NW’s Northwestern Hotel was located behind the tree on the right. The depot was on the opposite side of the hotel, it is now located 1,200 ft. to the northeast on the Marion Area Historical Society grounds. Additional information about this location, facility, and rail service can be found in the description of this album if you are interested. |
