William Parr General Just to Clarify this was never an approach signal to West Matthews. Thois signal was a Temporary one for teh siding at San Diego. looking this direction it would have been an BRD signal between this location and Matthews. Going in the direction behind you it would have been Signal 108.6 or the distanat signal to East San Diego. The tower of to the right is alleged to be part of the PTC that Congress mandated railraods adopt as a safegaurd to head on collisions. 1/21/2015 3:53:44 PM
Randy Curlin General I am a bit confused. Is there another passing track siding at San Diego? Looking at google maps and others I only find a passing track at Mathews. Can you clarify this? 1/23/2015 1:47:14 PM
Randy Curlin General I just remembered shooting signal 1086 from the other side of the xing last Aug. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=3925772 1/23/2015 1:55:37 PM
William Parr General Randy, yes there is a 2 .1 mile long siding called San Diego that is behind you in teh photo. It was placed in service in mid 2012. There is no way to access it from a public stand point, but if you drive down the last street in San Diego towards to tracks you can see the signals behind the last house. The other end of the siding is visible from CR 304 outside San Diego The siding runs from MP 105.7 on the West end to MP 107.8 on the East end 1/24/2015 1:38:55 AM
William Parr General Sorry I meant it was placed in servie in Mid 2013. It was the only thing CTC on the railroad. Right now CTC is in effect from East Mattehews to West San Diego or approx. 6 miles. There are no other strecthes of CTC in effect as of right now. This has been confirmed by 3 KCS employee's I am friends with. 1/24/2015 1:43:37 AM
Randy Curlin General Wow, that is exciting to know. It makes sense as Mathews siding had a ballast train occupying it and I was wondering how KCS gets blocks of trains by each other with a handful of sidings. I hope to make another trip that way in the coming months. 1/24/2015 2:15:12 AM
