The Reading Railroad Heritage Museum has one of the last remaining Reading Company Alco RS-3 locomotives, built in 1952 at the plant in Schenectady, NY. Originally assigned to the Reading's Rutherford yard near Harrisburg to replace steam, this locomotive worked diligently in freight service before being retired from the railroad's roster in 1973 and sold up north to a company in Montreal, Canada. The unit was acquired by the RCT&HS from a private leasing company in 1993. It last worked as a switcher for Domtar Packaging of Red Rock, Ontario as their number 68. Seen still wearing the faded Domtar paint scheme. |
