Between the tree in the center and the bush is the former R-O-W of the very first railroad that was constructed in South Texas. It was a narrow gauge line that was later converted to standard gauge. The line was eventually bypassed due to mile long trestles over tidal marshes before being abandoned altogether in the 1970s. Like most former railroads urban sprawl eventually covers what once was visible on google earth, but unidentified. The access road to the new BRG yard runs partially on the former R-O-W. |
