Museum Bound. Here is an original photo that I took at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 17 August 1961. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #7128, #7170, and three others that are not visible. All five are EFS-17M's built by EMD in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. They are pulling a 50-car eastbound TrucTrain around the Horseshoe Curve and down the Allegheny Mountains to Altoona and points East. Wave to the head-end brakeman in the second unit! As of 04 July 2016, or 55 years later, #7128 ~ now numbered "7580" ~ is in active excursion service with Steam Into History at New Freedom, Pennsylvania. |
