NDEM 2-8-2 #2101 - Nacional de Mexico  Contributor's Pick!
Beautiful action shot of a 1921 Baldwin built 2-8-2 Mikado steaming across the Mexican plains. According to www.steamlocomotive.com "Drury's (1993) comment on these (very) light standard-gauge Mikados is borne out by the photographs. They were, he said, "curiously anachronistic, with inside-bearing trailing trucks, odd-looking domes, and capped stacks." Specs - class KR-1, 48" drivers, 190 psi boiler pressure, 20x28" cylinders, engine weight of 180,000 lb, tractive effort of 35,700 lb. The last of the class was retired in 1963. Actual location was not given. Unknown photographer.
