Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer of a westbound Pennsylvania Railroad freight train rounding the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5817 and another "Centipede" whose number is not recorded. Both are BH-50's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works and rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #5817 was built in December of 1947 and retired in September of 1962. Also visible is PRR N-8 cabin car #478113. The date is an approximation. Roy Healey Collection; #2 of 9. |
