Oil Power. Here is a duplicate color "super slide" that was taken from the State Route 53 Bridge near Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, c. 1959. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engine #7086 and four more "Geeps" whose road numbers are not recorded. All are EFS-17M's built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. #7086 was constructed in November of 1956. They're about to roar under the Bridge with a manifest freight on their way to the New Portage Tunnel and a descent down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. Note the Flagman protecting the rear of his mixed-cargo freight train that has stopped on one of the westbound tracks. The photographer's name and the exact date are not recorded. |
