PRR Samuel Rea Shop, 1959
SRS. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, on 16 July 1959. Prominent here is the eastern end of the Pennsylvania Railroad's Samuel Rea Car Shop (SRS). A string of a dozen or so newly-reconditioned boxcars are parked just outside of one of the Shop's doors. In the foreground are oodles of PRR freight cars that have been marshalled for eventual reconditioning at SRS or scrapping at the Reclamation Plant in Frankstown. Also visible is the steeple of the Blair County Court House at the far right, as well as the ghostly outlines of the eastern slopes of the Allegheny Mountains in the distance.
