PRR Westbound Passenger, c. 1951
Baera 2. Here is a photo by H.W. Pontin that was taken at the Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1951. Shown here are three unidentified Pennsylvania Railroad locomotives ~ a "Pacific" and two "Sharks" ~ pulling a passenger train around the Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Johnstown and points West. At Gallitzin, the "Pacific" will be uncoupled and returned to Altoona for another assignment. Visible in the hazy distance is Milepost 242. (Track 1)
