Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, in May of 1953. Shown here (L to R) is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #9687 and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9687 is an EF-15A constructed as an EH-15 in February of 1949, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in October of 1969 after just 18 years of revenue service. The presence of an air horn in the foreground suggests that this photo was taken from an interlocking tower. Photo via Bob Hanson. ("Garr254" A; #4 of 6) |
