Here is a photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Olean, New York, on 4 September 1939. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6258, an E-3SD (4-4-2) "Atlantic" built in Juniata as an E-3D in September of 1908, rebuilt as an E-3SD in April of 1915, and retired in August of 1949 after 41 years of faithful service. In this context, the wooden boards covering the cab windows suggest that this engine has been mothballed. Gary Mittner Collection. (#11,600) |
